I Knew It!

Sg,

The place where we had dinner tonight…

Tesoro in Decatur

…has this sign out front that looks mighty familiar. I’m all like “that sign is made from an old Tower Records sign”, says I. And sure enough, it looks like the letters may have come from the Buckhead location:

Crazy and also cool. When I was going to high school or home from college in Gainesville, Tower Records at Lenox was one of very few non-little-5-points reasons to come into Atlanta. Man, I spent too much time and too much money at that store buying Nine Inch Nails imports and Nirvana rarities. Still, it strikes me as odd that the mixed up pieces of a partial Tower Records sign should be so recognizable to me. The open-face neon and retrograde italics made for a pretty strong brand.

You were pretty good at dinner — even though we had to wait outside in the heat and with the bugs and nobody would let you eat the margarita limes you’d thrown in the dirt. Paige and Marita think you’re pretty cool.

Also, once this post is indexed by Google, it will be the only page in Google’s index containing the exact phrase “retrograde italics”. That just seems off.
