I’ll fess up early to the fact that I had been drinking before we got to Pura Vida, and that I didn’t, you know, stop while I was there. So we won’t spend too much time on the food. It was good, mostly. There were some little fried broccolis, some chips made out of something nobody at my table had ever heard of, some things wrapped in other things — it was yuppie tapas, basically. I liked allmost all of the dishes, but nothing was mind-blowing.

AT: “I would put the food at 4 stars - some of the dishes were really good! The malanga chips with cremini mushroom dip were awesome (even if none of us knew what malanga is)! We also had empanadas de picadillo de pollo and pato frito con batata, which were both excellent. We had a variety of other things that were only okay and a few things that were really not good.”

Again, fine. AT: “Yeah, I agree. It could’ve been better, but wasn’t terrible.”

Atmosphere

Combined:  (3.5)

AT:

LM:

Eh. It was a little bit bobo, but it’s in the bobo Virginia Highlands, where an older and richer populace doesn’t seem to mind being reminded that they’re older and richer.

AT: “I’d say a four. It wasn’t bad. The noise level was okay and the seating wasn’t crowded. But nothing special besides.”

Value

LM:

No recollection whatsoever.

AT: “It was pretty expensive for not being outstanding. Each of the tapas was $6-$10 (most of them $8-$10), and our server recommended three per person.”
